How To Prepare For Your First Boudoir Photoshoot

So you've booked your first boudoir shoot, but the nerves have started to appear. It's totally understandable to feel apprehensive before your first shoot, but don't worry! With our top 5 ways to make the most of your boudoir photoshoot in New York City, we'll help you make the most of your time.

1. What to wear.
Don't feel under-pressure to wear anything outside of your comfort zone. Remember, we often feel at our best when we are most comfortable in what we wear. Wearing something overly tight or uncomfortable will likely reduce your confidence, and could compromise imagery. Your photographer will work with you to ensure you're at ease, but by wearing the right outfit, you'll help express the true you.

Think of colours - black underwear looks fabulous against pale skin tones, whereas darker skin sometimes commands a strong palette for the ultimate contrast. When it comes to cut and fit, remember your photographer might suggest poses and looks that might be unsuitable for particularly restrictive undergarments. At the end of the day, the precious pictures you'll take away are the ultimate expression of you as an individual, and don't be afraid to stand true to you, your likes and looks.

2. Fight the Fear.
In the days running up to your shoot, it's natural to feel a little nervous. Remember, your photographer and the studio is working for you. It's not in their best interests to do anything that will make you feel uncomfortable, as the picture quality is likely to suffer as a result of an unhappy model. Boudoir photographers spend hours a day with their clients, and will have seen everything, from the most shy and introverted of people, to those most revealing and bold.
Your personal photographers are able to work closely to bring out the very best in those they shoot. Our top tips would be to choose a photographer for them as a person, as much as their work. At your consultation really work to try and get an understanding for how they make you feel. A great photographer will put you at ease within minutes!

3. Preparation.
As we've said, the point of the shoot is to show the very best of YOU. Don't feel under-pressure to do anything you don't feel comfortable doing. Having said this, for picture perfect results consider the following! Firstly, a great exfoliation a few days before, will leave your skin glowing with a matte look, perfect for lighting. Try to avoid exfoliating on the day, as this might leave your skin a little red.

Also consider tanning. Are you a tan lover or hater? If you're rarely seen without a wonderful glow, then going bare might not reflect the real you. Similarly, if you are a pale-skinned beauty, don't be afraid to let this shine! Shaving should be considered to help optimise your silky skin. If you have particularly dry areas, then really concentrate on getting moisture into these areas in the run up to the shoot.

4. Make Up.
If you require it, have a brief consult with your photographer, prior to the day, on the look(s) you want to rock. Though trusting professionals is what works best. Also, you may want to take along a few of your go to products, such as a favorite lipstick, if you're set on a particular look or color that suits you.

5. What to take.
We'd recommend taking a little bag with, packed with any essentials you might need for the day to keep you refreshed and happy. We recommend taking several sets of underwear, so not only can you change your look, but also for any last minute substitutions you'd like to make. A pair or two of killer heels is also a fab idea, as will really add some sultriness to those shots.

There we have our top tips to helping you make the most of your boudoir shoot. We can't stress enough that the photographer is on your side, and will work with you to make sure they capture the best results possible, If you have any specific concerns or needs, make sure you discuss these with them prior to the shoot, which will help to gain trust, and build a relationship.
